Our New Home – Luna's Big Backyard Adventure
Share
On Labor Day 2024, we went on a self-guided tour of a house close to where we were living at the time. We fell in love with it right away and knew it would be a great fit for the three of us. The most important feature of this new place was the large and fenced in back yard. No more having to walk around on a leash to take Luna potty. There was plenty of space to run around and play together. The inside also has so much more space just to live. We got home from the tour and immediately put in an application with the property manager.
Less than a week later, we were accepted to lease our new home. For the next couple of weeks, we spent every day after work going through our things. Throwing out what we didn't want or need anymore and packing up everything else. Working all day and then working all night packing was honestly exhausting, but for Luna it was totally worth it.
Since we rescued Luna and knew next to nothing about her past, we were a little nervous about her reactions to all the moving boxes and totes that were all around. To our surprise, she didn't seem to mind at all. She was so good throughout the entire process, we couldn't wait until we were able to show her our new home.
We both took a week from work to finish the moving process and to make sure that Luna settled into the new place. We were nervous for nothing. She absolutely loved the backyard and all the extra space inside. One of my favorite things about the new place was the neighborhood and the fact that it has sidewalks. We didn't have to take walks in the street or an overgrown field anymore.
The next few months flew by. We had our first Halloween, Thanksgiving and Christmas together. After the New Year, we talked about next steps to make Luna more comfortable with other people and possibly other dogs again. We researched and talked about different ideas and came to one conclusion. We were going to try out doggy daycare.
Come back next week to see how it went!
